Island-inspired Rock and Blues
Tavana is a one-man band from Honolulu, HI who uses electronic drum triggers to lay down a variety of grooves with his feet to accompany himself while playing guitar and singing soulful, island-inspired Rock and Blues. Tavana has performed and recorded with Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam, Henry Kapono, John Cruz, and Leon Mobley (Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals), and has been the supporting act for Alabama Shakes, Shakey Graves, Xavier Rudd, Jenny Lewis, Julian Marley, and Kaleo to name just a few. His 4th album, ‘Aloha Spirit’ was recently nominated for a Na Hoku Hano Hano Award for Best Contemporary Album of the Year. Paul Izak’s potent music embodies the spirit of VegFest Oahu and he is gracious to return again to our Music Stage. A singer/songwriter and farmer in the back roads of Waimanalo, his songs reflect his love for the land and life. He is co-founder of Yogarden whose mission is to educate the community in the importance of growing your own food and living a healthy, sustainable lifestyle. They have volunteer days on Thursdays and special events.
Quadraphonix
World Music, Funk, Latin, Jazz
Quadraphonix is a Hawaii-based free-form world beat band with an international following. Their sound is influenced by Indian, Malaysian, African and Latin cultural music fused with Jazz, Hip Hop, Funk, Blues, and Rock. They’ve performed in 15 countries, from Germany to Thailand and beyond, and have shared the stage with legendary performers including Talib Kweli and Mos Def, Ozomatli, The Black Eyed Peas, and Eek-A-Mouse. The band spent the last 3 years touring with singer Iyeoka, electrifying crowds world-wide with their high energy performances. Many mahalos to the mighty Quadraphonix foursome for bringing their innovative sound back to VegFest Oahu: Shree Sadagopan, Jonathan Heraux, Aaron Friedman, and Eli Clemens.
Hook + Line
Acoustic Rhythm and Blues
Hook + Line is the brain child of Jacob Staron with his partner Mahree. Jacob is a multi-faceted, musically trained artist who is also the cellist/guitar player for Taimane and mandolin player for The Infamous Bourbon Boys. The Americana Project features rotating guest musicians and loves taking the audience through a journey of modern and classic homegrown tunes. With no fancy effects, it’s all about great songs, energetically delivered with heart and harmony. They feature an ever changing lineup of guitar, blues harp, fiddle, upright bass and customized cajon that’s topped off with vocal harmonies.
